In collaboration with the Ontario Good Roads Association, Dr. Dabbour annually teaches the following two professional development courses for municipal staff, engineers, technologists, technicians, and anyone interested in road design and traffic safety:
This one-day workshop covers the safety requirements for temporary work zones in Ontario. The workshop provides guidance for municipalities, consultants, and contractors on how to develop and implement essential traffic safety plans for temporary work zones to ensure the safety of the site personnel as well as all road users. Several case studies are provided to demonstrate how safety can be maintained in temporary work zones.
The last offering of this course was on November 12, 2024. The next offering date of the course will be announced soon.
This course provides an in-depth understanding of municipalities’ exposure to liability due to their legal obligation to provide safe road facilities to the public. The course explains the legal principle of “joint and several liability” in Canadian courts, and practical steps that municipalities can take to fulfill their legal obligations through proper design, inspection, maintenance, and documentation of road facilities. Several case studies are discussed to explain different situations when municipalities were found legally liable for the improper design, inspection, or maintenance of different road facilities.
The last offering of this course was from November 5 to 7, 2024. The next offering date of the course will be announced soon.
